Gabriel Maurial – Organizer

Hey everyone, I’m Gabriel, the initiator of this expedition! I’m currently pursuing a PhD in Physics and Sociology in Marseille.

I first decided to plan an expedition to Mongolia at the beginning of my PhD, as a reward for finishing it. As time passed, I realized it might be even more fun to share this experience with others. And here I am now, planning to lead my own expedition!

To tell you a bit more about myself, I spend most of my vacations backpacking alone. I usually stay in hostels and guesthouses, which allows me to meet many people—both locals and fellow solo travelers.

Recently, I completed two Interrail trips across Europe, but there are still many countries on this continent that I would love to discover. Spending a few months in South Korea for one of my internships was also one of the reasons I became so interested in Asian countries.

Additionally, I started hiking a few years ago and quickly fell in love with it. Planning long hikes and walking for hours to reach a breathtaking spot feels incredibly rewarding. That’s why I chose to offer a journey on foot rather than on horseback.

During this trip, I would love to meet as many Mongolian communities living in the steppes as possible—and why not create a documentary about their worldview and way of life. I would also love to share their culture through an exhibition of the photographs I hope to take during this expedition.

I cannot wait to meet all the future members and start planning this expedition together!
