The expedition team and its logistics are organized by Gabriel Maurial. However, the project is designed to remain flexible and to accommodate the individual objectives of each team member throughout the journey.
The expedition is planned to begin in March 2028. Team members will gather in Ulaanbaatar at least three days before departure to meet, get to know each other, and finalize preparations, before heading into the wilderness on foot. The expedition will be supported by pack ponies (used to carry food and equipment, not people) for approximately 5–6 months.
The exact route will be determined through online meetings once the expedition team has been finalized. Applications will close no later than October 2027.
Requirements
The expedition is self-funded, and personal equipment is required to participate. We will try to find sponsors to cover part of the cost. In the worst-case scenario (which everyone should be prepared for), the estimate on this page represents the expected cost of the expedition. Please note that this estimate reflects an upper bound; the final cost will depend on the number of expedition members.

On-site cost
Based on various estimates—including food, pony-related costs, gear repairs, veterinary supplies, the guide’s wages, and additional expenses—the total cost of the expedition for a team of 10 is estimated to range between $30,000 and $60,000. This corresponds to an individual budget of approximately $3,000 to $6,000 per participant. Please note that these figures are estimates; actual costs may vary significantly depending on the number of participants and local conditions.
